#67 Elizabeth Hamilton
Poster Caption: With his marriage to Elizabeth Schuyler in 1780, Alexander Hamilton joined one of the wealthiest, most socially prominent families in New York and Elizabeth became the wife of a man widely recognized as a brilliant and patriotic rising star. Elizabeth would survive her husband by fifty years. She spent those decades doing charitable work and striving to preserve Hamilton's reputation and legacy. She co-founded and helped direct New York's first private orphanage, and in 1848 she and Dolley Madison raised funds to build the Washington Monument. (Mrs. Alexander Hamilton by Ralph Earl, 1787.
